Denver Chiropractic Center and Dr. Jeff Stripling Presents:

FREE BAREFOOT RUNNING CLINIC

July 13th at 6PM, hosted by Crossfit Conquer

Learn how to run and walk pain-free by trading in your expensive shoes for the ones you were born with — bare feet. Whether you’re an experienced barefoot runner, someone who finds the idea of being able to Feel The World intriguing, or someone who just wants a few tips to be able to run faster and easier, you’ll enjoy this experiential hands-on (feet-on?) evening.Speakers include Invisible Shoes founder and elite sprinter, Steven Sashen, who along with Dr. Jeff Stripling will focus on improving running form, preventing injuries, and how to make running more enjoyable.

Crossfit Conquer @ 1137 South Huron, Denver, CO 80223

Go to any local race and watch the runners go by and you will notice that there are as many styles as there are people. The faster runners appear to glide by with little effort while others labor with every step.

Swimmers and cyclists have long used drills to perfect their stroke and become more efficient athletes, but it really hasn’t been until recent years that average runners have paid much attention to their running form.

Improper form makes the body work harder to move across the ground and leads to many injuries.

New York based The Balanced Runner will be presenting two workshops in Boulder over the weekend of July 24 and 25th. The day long workshops promise you will learn how to:

Prevent/eliminate the causes of typical runners’ injuries, including runners’ knee, shin splints, hip pain, plantar fasciitis, and hamstring problems

Access the power of your pelvis for running that feels effortless and light from head to toes

Use your core muscles for more efficient running

Find better balance between your right and left sides

Push off and advance your legs more naturally

Develop sensitivity, awareness and understanding of your body so you can adjust

your form when running on your own

Run faster and enjoy it more

Workshop teachers Jae Gruenke and Julia Pak are both Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners. The lessons are based on the principles of the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education® and are safe for injured runners but potent enough to impact runners performing at very high levels. The workshop will include a small amount of running, gently guided movement lessons done on the floor, and video analysis of elite runners.

Each participant will leave with a list of reference points to practice on your own and an audio refresher CD.

So if you find that you hurt while running, or are frustrated with your recent performances, your body may be telling you its time to make some changes.

Register or get more information at BalancedRunner.com

Workshop Content

Video Taping and Gait Analysis

First we will view and study your running form and biomechanics. This indispensable tool affords you a great opportunity to see yourself in action and receive expert feedback that both reinforces the things you are doing right in your form and movement and helps you to correct the habits and inefficiencies that hold you back from feeling and performing your best. It sets the stage for change and future

Proper Body Alignment and Principles of Movement

Next we will present and reinforce, with body-based exercises, “Proper Body Alignment and Principles of Movement.” These concepts will be your guide for how to run efficiently as well as enabling you to contact your source of strength and power. We will help you apply the basic principles of movement that include; the absence of unnecessary effort, circularity, grounding, moving from your center or core, momentum and rhythm. These principles will help you identify and manifest the basic qualities of good running form such as directed arm swing, optimal body lean, integration of upper and lower body and utilization of the powerful core muscles of the hips and pelvis. Skillful use of these principles is central to fluid efficient movement and provides the foundation for continued improvement.

Individualized Critique of Your Running Form

Everyone will receive individual instruction so that you will leave with a basic understanding and the essential tools you need so that you can successfully work with your running form. This will include videotaping again, so that you can see the changes and improvements made during the day. Everyone will have an opportunity to observe improvements others make, giving you a wide range of impressions that facilitate the learning process.

her whole life through her athletic pursuits. She is passionate about sharing the knowledge and experience she has acquired and applies this to coaching Runners and Triathletes in Boulder.

Douglas Wisoff, PT has combined training and traditional sports medicine with a comprehensive study of current holistic approaches to the body, healing and movement. Fifteen years of intensive endurance training and racing has given him an understanding of the specific problems associated with running. Out of this he has developed a system of sports movement that has a significant impact on injury rehabilitation, injury prevention, form efficiency and performance.

This study is quantifying how speed and incline affect the energetic cost of running.

An experiment is being conducted in the Locomotion Lab on the CU Campus trying to understand how speed and incline affect the elastic energy return of the muscles and tendons.

They are looking for males or females between the ages of 18-40 who can run a 5k in less than 20:00 minutes.

Subjects are required to meet for two, 2-2:30 hour sessions on separate days. Each day subjects will run on a treadmill at different speeds and inclines while we measure your rate of oxygen consumption. Subjects will not be paid, but we will give you information about how your running efficiency compares to other runners and elite runners.

One of the practical goals of the study is to generate an accurate equation so that equivalent treadmill speeds and inclines can be calculated. Scientifically, we are trying to understand how speed and incline affect the elastic energy return of the muscles and tendons.
