Boulder’s Sandrock Provides Shoes for Third World

You’ve heard the story about the man who complained he had no shoes until he met a man who had no feet. Mike Sand(Rock) was inspired to collect shoes for the shoeless after running a marathon in Africa with a man shod in plastic sandals.

Since that day in 1986, Sandrock’s One World Running has collected more than 250,000 pairs of shoes for runners and barefoot children in Third World countries, always inspired by the image of the marathoner in sandals in Yaounde, Cameroon.
“It’s so satisfying, much more satisfying than doing something that would make a lot of money,” said Sandrock, who is also a freelance journalist specializing in running. “One World Running is really a great name because we’re all running together. We’re all connected.”
